You Are What You Ingest

People really need to think harder about what they ingest when it comes to music. We’ve got genres all across the board that do nothing but promote violence, especially when the lyrics are repetitive and the beat is catchy. For the most part, these millionaire and billionaire “artists” are choosing for you what will become your self-talk, recited things repeated to others, which leads to some really negative actions.

As I travel around the city, there are plenty of times I’m hearing some guy beating the shit out of a woman at traffic lights. The music blaring is usually some man angrily, repetitively, going on and on about how men should fuck up women when they tell them no. Then there’s been people arguing in the street, repeating some violent lyrics and phrases they allowed themselves to be indoctrinated with. Last night, a string of hateful words I recognised from some millionaire came out of the mouth of someone else towards another person, followed by gunshots.

Some lyrics aren’t so forward with their violence, but still play a huge role in it. We’ve got classist bullshit performed and marketed by more millionaires and billionaires who are laughing all the way to the bank. They sing pretentiously and rap boastfully about how fucking amazing they think they are, how they’re better than anyone else, how they can do no wrong. Blah blah about how their life is a shining example of various renditions of prosperity gospels, how privileged they are, more religious references, some dollops of self-deprecating nonsense followed by repetitive phrases which are ultimately self-gaslighting when the average person turns it into self-talk. This is so impressing, largely due to the heavy influences of religious themes and repetition of catchphrases throughout the music and lyrics.

Sure, there are plenty of other factors at play here. But life’s soundtrack, which is largely manipulated by people who benefit the most from inciting direct and systemic violence, is still a significant part of it and cannot be ignored.

Point being, pay attention to what you’re choosing to take on as what influences your thoughts, your words, your actions, and your inactions. These wealthy “artists” and religious entities don’t give a fuck about you. They really don’t. They do give a fuck about how to make their products “fun” and catchy, and give the illusion of control for people to indoctrinate themselves with; getting everyday people to do abusive shit to each other as a means of delegation in order to keep the money and power flowing to them whilst simultaneously keeping the masses down.

Most of it is poison. And you can’t ingest a little bit of poison without bringing down your health and sense of self. What makes music so influential is that people ingest it far more often than images. Music is almost always ongoing everywhere. We use it to alter our moods, for good and for bad. We’ve all used music as a means to cope, escape, motivate, as well as alter our own perceptions. When we have it on whilst doing other things, it still has a significant part of our attention; thus, is a significant fuel to what our other influences in life may be. Choose wisely.
